Origin and genetics

Gelato, aka Larry Bird, is a slightly Indica dominant (55/45) strain with soaring THC levels of 20% to 27% and 1% CBD. This multiple award-winning hybrid is the coveted child of the delicious Sunset Sherbet and the world-famous Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. Gelato is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but its popularity has grown beyond those bounds to become one of the most popular cannabis varieties in the world.

This very potent hybrid should never be taken lightly as it can easily knock consumers out, especially amateurs. The dominant terpenes include Myrcene, Caryophyllene, and Limonene.

Flavor, aroma, and appearance

Gelato produces a mouthwatering aroma and taste. The flavor is reminiscent of candy or dessert and is characterized by sweet, sherbet, and blueberry notes on the inhale. During exhalation, one can detect dominant creamy goodness. Gelato emits a woody, earthy, and lavender aroma with berry and citrus hints.

True to its genetics, the plant does not grow much vertically. However, it compensates for this by developing a network of branches, making it quite bushy. The buds are magenta and green with aesthetic orange hairs and a thick crystalline layer of trichomes. The buds are smaller than most strains, but the plant contains numerous budding sites, so the yield is still impressive.

Growing

Growing gelato requires some skills as it requires constant attention. It is best suited for experienced cultivators. The plants need a warm and humid environment to thrive. Although the seeds can be grown indoors or outdoors, a controlled environment is better. Gelato is resistant to mold, mildew, pests, and common plant diseases. After 8-9 weeks of flowering, this hybrid produces 450-550 grams/m². Cultivators can expect 600-700 grams/plant.
